Road to 10

UTR Journey

Background

This is my personal journal documenting my pursuit of becoming a UTR 10 tennis player. From refining my footwork, forehand, and backhand to mastering strategy, endurance, and mental toughness. Through training sessions, match breakdowns, and lessons learned, I’ll share the highs, lows, and breakthroughs of this journey.

Update: Debuting in league play this fall 2025. Putting in the work on and off court. Updates coming along with match analysis.

  • I fell in love with tennis because it’s the ultimate test of skill, speed, and strategy. Every match is a battle of precision footwork, explosive forehands, rock-solid backhands, and smart decision-making.

  • Improve consistency, speed, and precision on my first serves to make them a more reliable weapon during matches.

My Strengths & Weakneses

Blue represents my current strengths, while Green reflects the well-rounded player I aspire to become.

I see my journey in tennis like a marathon runner preparing for and pushing through a race. It’s not about rushing to the finish—it’s about the process, endurance, and constant refinement.

Every step on the court matters, from footwork and forehand to backhand, serves, and mental toughness. To play at the highest level, I must commit to mastering each element, knowing that progress comes from consistent effort, discipline, and resilience.

2025 Focus Areas

Building fundamentals

I’m focused on building strong fundamentals and refining key aspects of my game that will translate to the professional level. Consistency has been a major focus, and I’ve dedicated time and reps to improving it. This year, I’ve worked on developing sound stroke mechanics combined with efficient footwork.

Train smarter, not harder

Just like in software development, I break down my training into manageable skill areas, focusing on precision, consistency, and endurance. On the court, I work with both humans and machines, each playing a crucial role in my progress.

With a training partner, I simulate real match situations, working on shot selection, point construction, and adapting to an opponent’s rhythm. These sessions sharpen my decision-making, reaction time, and competitive mindset.

With my ball machine, I control the drills—feeding shots at specific speeds, spins, and placements. This gives me consistent, reliable repetition, reinforcing mechanics and building muscle memory without external variables. It’s the perfect way to refine technique, develop shot accuracy, and ingrain patterns into my game.

Allow your body to rest, eat cleanly

I see my body as a high-performance engine, where recovery, nutrition, and training all work together for peak performance. Just like an engine needs proper maintenance, my body requires rest and recovery to keep performing at its best.

Nutrition plays a huge role in my growth and endurance, and this year, I’m prioritizing key dietary improvements. I’m incorporating red meat regularly to aid muscle recovery and reduce downtime between intense sessions. I’m also focusing on healthy carbohydrates that efficiently convert into energy, fueling my performance on the court.

One major change is cutting out sugars, which I’ve noticed slows my metabolism and leaves me feeling sluggish. When I stay disciplined with a balanced diet—lean proteins, quality carbs, and clean eating—I feel sharper, both in my tennis game and professional life. The right fuel doesn’t just power my body—it strengthens my mental clarity, endurance, and overall performance.
